The adoption process typically follows these steps:
- Browse Available Pets: Search our database of pets looking for homes across Canada using filters like city, pet type, and preferences.
- View Pet Details: Click on a pet to see photos, description, health information, and behavioral traits.
- Submit Application: Complete an adoption application form with information about yourself and your home.
- Background Check (if required): If the pet owner has chosen to require verification, you'll complete a third-party background check through an independent service.
- Review & Selection: The pet owner reviews applications and selects a match for their pet.
- Meet & Adopt: Arrange a meeting and complete the adoption if it's a good fit. All meetups and transactions occur between users outside of our platform.
To list your pet for adoption on Pawsitive Placements:
- Create an Account: Sign up for a free account if you don't have one.
- List Your Pet: Fill out our pet listing form with photos, description, and details about your pet.
- Set Preferences: Optionally choose whether you want applicants to complete a third-party background check verification.
- Review Applications: Browse adoption applications from interested families.
- Select a Match: Choose a family that fits your pet based on their application.
- Stay Connected: You can choose to stay in touch with the new owners after adoption.
Background checks are optional and are only required if a pet owner chooses to require them when listing their pet. This process:
- Is conducted by an independent third-party verification service (not by Pawsitive Placements)
- Includes identity verification and background screening
- Requires a fee paid directly to the third-party verification service (typically $20-50)
- Typically takes 1-3 business days to complete
- Results are shared securely with the pet owner by the third-party service
Important: Pawsitive Placements does not run, store, or control background check results. We provide the option for pet owners to require verification, but the checks are handled entirely by third-party services. We do not endorse any specific background check provider.

Platform Fees: FREE - Listing pets, browsing, and submitting applications cost nothing.
Adoption Fees: Pet owners may optionally set an adoption fee to help cover their pet's care costs. This is up to the pet owner, and some pets are listed with no fee.
Verification Fees: Only if a pet owner chooses to require background check verification, there is a fee paid directly to the third-party verification service. This applies only when verification is required by the pet owner.

Yes. Pawsitive Placements offers a "Stay Connected" option. When listing your pet, you can choose to allow contact after adoption.
This means:
- You can receive updates about your pet's new life
- Share photos and stories with the new family
- Share updates and receive news from the new family
- Build a relationship with the new owners
This feature can make rehoming less stressful and keep communication clear.
